New Orleans Suspects 9pm - $15adv / $18door - 21+ Willie Green (Neville Brothers) / Charlie Wooten (Bonerama, Royal Southern Brotherhood) / Jake Eckert (Dirty Dozen) / CR Gruver (Outformation, Leo Nocentelli of The Meters) / Jeff Watkins (James Brown Band) When New Orleans Suspects arose from the primordial musical soup that is New Orleans, they were a fill-in band and an occasional jam band at their neighborhood Maple Leaf Bar.The group brought together some of the best, most highly respected players in New Orleansincluding Jake Eckert, Jeff Watkins, CR Gruver “Mean” Willie Green on drums, and ReggieScanlan. When they started touring late in 2011, naysayers in the Crescent City agreed itwould not last; the Suspects would be another short-lived super group that would quickly fallapart under the weight of egos and money. New Orleans Suspects exceeded expectationsand some five years later they have delivered their fourth album release, Kaleidoscoped.Jake Eckert, the guitarist and one of the principal songwriters and vocalists, is a veteran of tenyears on the road with Dirty Dozen Brass Band, a former member of Larry Carlton’s band, anda Grammy Award ®-winning engineer. He has extensive formal music training and actuallytaught at the prestigious Guitar Institute of Technology. Not only has Eckert won a Grammy, heplayed on The Grammys broadcast with New Orleans legend Allen Toussaint.Kaleidoscoped was recorded at his Rhythm Shack Studios with assistance from Suspect JeffWatkins, a twelve-year veteran as sax player and section leader for the late James Brown, who constantly referred to him as “the ninth wonder of the world.” Watkins has a formalmusical and engineering education, having attended both the Universities of Missouri andMiami. He was a long-time member of the Joss Stone Band and has performed on multiplenetwork television shows.Keyboardist CR Gruver, the other principal songwriter and vocalist, spent years immersinghimself in the piano style of New Orleans legends like Dr. John, James Booker and AllenToussaint and is arguably the best living practitioner of the New Orleans boogie-woogie pianostyle, which is an aggregate of boogie-woogie, Caribbean rhythmic patterns and second line.Gruver made a name for himself, first in Philadelphia, then in the Rockies, with his bandPolytoxic, and later with Southern rockers Outformation. He also spent time in Leo Nocentelli’sband, pursuing the Meters’ groove.“Mean” Willie Green, best known for his 35 years as drummer for The Neville Bros., has alsoplayed on albums by Bob Dylan, Paul Simon, Edie Brickell and The Grateful Dead. He literallyinvented one of the primary styles of New Orleans trap drumming for which he gets credit frommusicians around the world.Founding bassist Reggie Scanlan spent 34 years on the road as an original member of TheNew Orleans Radiators after stints with both Professor Longhair and James Booker. Thescholarly Scanlan, one of the last living connections to the original generation of New OrleansR&B musicians, has had to leave the road due to illness. Charlie Wooton (formerly of RoyalSouthern Brotherhood) now fills the touring bass chair. Scanlan’s illness drove the Suspectsto help fund medical care for the New Orleans music community. Scanlan, the band and itsmanagement have organized and directed numerous benefit concerts for the New OrleansMusicians Clinic, a 401(c)3 foundation that provides free and low-cost medical care andcounseling for more than 2,500 musicians. The band’s work with the clinic led them to joinforces with JoJo Hermann of Widespread Panic to present three versions of the benefit series“Down on the Bayou,” featuring the Suspects as musical directors and house band with guestsas diverse as Dr. John, all members of Widespread Panic, Al Schnier of moe., Marcia Ball,Harry Shearer, Leland Sklar, members of Aquarium Rescue Unit and “Beehive Queen”Christine Ohlman from the Saturday Night Live band.New Orleans Suspects are unbelievably tight on stage with their peers, press, venue ownersand promoters singing the praises of their musical prowess. They annually perform in a keyslot on the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival’s main stage. USA Today called theirAcura Stage set “Outstanding…a sound that could have only bubbled up from this city.…”New Orleans Jazzfest founder and current director Quint Davis says, “The Suspects are deeptissue New Orleans Funk and have emerged as one of the banner New Orleans music groups;taking their place among the standard bearers of our music. And they rock! Rather, funk.”They have become a regular fixture at noted concert and festival venues in San Francisco,San Diego, St. Louis, Chicago, Minneapolis, Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, Atlanta,Birmingham, and in what has become a major stomping ground, New York City, where VillageVoice called them “a seriously funky crew,” and even The New Yorker occasionally notes theirpassing through the metropolis. The San Diego Union Tribune called them, “a rollicking blendof funk, jazz, blues, rock and vintage N’awlins R&B, designed to fill dance floors with gyratingcelebrants.”They have formed touring alliances with Tower of Power, Glen David Andrews (of Tréméfame) and Paul Barrere and Fred Tackett of Little Feat. The Barrere/Tackett/Suspects mashuphas been increasingly in demand at music festivals and has generated a track, “DixieHighway,” that appears on Kaleidoscoped. Members of Tower of Power and “Big Chief” JuanPardo also guest on the album on which the Suspects look at the history of New Orleansmusic through a brightly colored prismatic chamber and thus the album title. The band’s first, self-released eponymous album debuted in 2011 and featured the smokingCR Gruver original “36 Cars” as well as a few other band originals interspersed with coversongs. In 2012, the Suspects produced and released Caught Live at the Maple Leaf, a lovingtribute to the nightclub where it all started and a testament to the band’s increasing skills.Their 2014 studio album, Ouroboros, released on Louisiana Red Hot Records, generatedsubstantial radio play, both in the terrestrial world and on multiple Sirius/XM channels for focustracks “Get Back What You Given,” Soothe Me,” and “Magdalena” as well as rave reviews andfeatures in publications such as Stereophile, Downbeat, Modern Drummer and RelixMagazine. Kaleidoscoped will be released digitally and on CD on September 16th and on vinyl onSeptember 30th on Louisiana Red Hot Records. Headquartered in New Orleans, LouisianaRed Hot Records has released over 200 albums of the hottest Blues, Jazz, R&B, Gospel,Funk, Zydeco, Cajun and Rock, and is a leader among Southern independent labels with titlesby a plethora of New Orleans acts including Rebirth Brass Band, Dumpstaphunk andTrombone Shorty The Lowdown Brass Band, hailing from Chicago, IL, is a nine-piece, horn-driven ensemble with strong roots in the New Orleans 2nd Line Tradition. A fierce sousaphone sets the foundation for trumpets, trombones and saxophones to intertwine in a cacophony of tight lead lines, spontaneous call-and-response and bombastic brass attacks. While taking a page from the jazz and blues giants of the past, the LDB melds modern funk, hip-hop, reggae and pop into a unique new style. Lowdown forges new ground with original compositions that challenge the listener and player alike, breaking down the barrier between performer and audience.

New Orleans Supergroup! One of the Best Funk Shows to come to town the entire year! 21+ / $15 at the door Willie Green (Neville Brothers)/Jake Eckert (Dirty Dozen)/Jeff Watkins (James Brown Band)/C.R. Gruver (Outformation)/Charlie Wooton (Royal Southern Brotherhood). Start with members of three of the top bands to come out of New Orleans, The Neville Brothers, The Radiators, and The Dirty Dozen - then add a saxophonist who was James Brown's horn director for 12 years, and a keyboard player with extraordinary talent, and you have The New Orleans Suspects. With well over a century of touring experience combined, this is a real band with genuine musicianship and more seasoning than any of New Orleans' greatest dishes. They have been making an enormous impact with their live performances across the country, and have established themselves as one of the brightest new lights out of the Crescent City. Funky drumbeats, greasy wailing saxophones, razor-sharp guitar playing, rollicking piano and swampy organ swells, strutting bass lines and tight vocal harmonies make this band stand above the rest. Just as the wind shifts over the Mississippi River, so does the music the band creates - strains of Dr John and the Nevilles, The Meters and Allan Toussaint, brass bands and piano legends, hot nights and sweat-soaked streets, all combine in an original way to create what is now known as The New Orleans Suspects. "...a wildly infectious sound that pays tribute to everyone from James Booker and Bobby Charles, to The Meters and Galactic." - Marquee Magazine, Denver, CO "This is uplifting, feel good party music and if you can’t get happy at this show then you really are having a terrible day." - Rock Chicago Magazine, Chicago, IL "There are groups with a pedigree, and then there are the New Orleans Suspects. The resulting music... is the best of both worlds: a mixture of classic New Orleans second-line grooves and fresh new musical directions." - The Herald-Journal, Greenville, SC

New Orleans Suspects brings together some of the best, most highly respected players in New Orleans including; “Mean” Willie Green on drums (Neville Bros.); Jeff Watkins on saxophone (James Brown Band, Joss Stone Band); Jake Eckert on guitar/vocals (Dirty Dozen Brass Band); CR Gruver on keyboards and vocals (Polytoxic, Outformation) and Charlie Wooton (Royal Southern Brotherhood) on bass guitar. Known for their blazing live performances, the band continues to excite audiences around the country and is revered in their hometown of New Orleans. New Orleans Suspects released Kaleidoscoped in 2016 to rave reviews and substantial airplay on four stations on Sirius/XM Radio. It was added into rotation on nearly 170 non-commercial AAA, blues and jazz stations. Kaleidoscoped takes a variegated look at roots music, funk and traditional New Orleans music through a colorfully distorted lens, creating a sound described as "psychedelic funk." The album sequencing devolves into twisted looks at such traditional Louisiana genres as Cajun swamp pop, Mardi Gras Indian Funk plus a trip through a pastiche of Southern rock, Dr. John-style R&B and traditional jazz. Paul Barrere and Fred Tacketts’ story began in 1972 during the recording of the classic Little Featalbum, Dixie Chicken. Barerre was the guitarist for the band at that time. Lowell George, the leader of Little Feat, was a close friend of multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Fred Tackett. Lowell wanted to record Fred’s song “Fool Yourself,” so it was there at Clover Studios in Hollywood that they began playing music together. Many years and many sessions later, Fred became a member of Little Feat when the band reformed in 1987. Barrere, having been a member of Little Feat since that iconic recording in 1972, thought that it was perfect to ask Fred to become the second guitarist of the famed ensemble; writing and playing together became second nature for them. Tackett and Barrere have been touring as an acoustic duo since 1999 and have released two live records: Live From The North Café and Live In The UK 2008. Together and as solo artists they have worked and recorded with hundreds of artists, including folks such as Bob Dylan, Bonnie Raitt, Taj Mahal, Jack Bruce, Phil Lesh, and many more!

They quickly began attracting large crowds from San Francisco to New York. In five short years they’ve released four CDs and established themselves as one of New Orleans’ best supergroups. “Mean” Willie Green was the drummer for the Neville Brothers for over thirty years. His unparalleled style has helped shape New Orleans funk, and his drumming has graced recorded tracks by dozens of artists, including The Grateful Dead, Bob Dylan, Paul Simon and Edie Brickell. Charlie Wooton was born and raised in Lafayette, Louisiana, where he studied Jazz, Classical, Funk, and Zydeco. An international touring musician and an accomplished studio producer, his resumé includes Chubby Carrier, Royal Southern Brotherhood, Bonerama, Zydefunk, Sonny Landreth, ZABADODAT, and many others. Jake Eckert was the longtime lead guitarist in the Dirty Dozen Brass Band. Traveling the world, he has performed everywhere from Palace Square in Russia to 2009 Grammy Awards ceremony. He has other talents as well, receiving a Grammy Award in 2011 for recording engineer and producing albums for John Mooney, Cedric Burnside, and New Orleans Suspects, among others. CR Gruver is a classically trained pianist who immersed himself in New Orleans piano styles after touring with national bands such as Outformation and singer/songwriter Angie Aparo. Adept at James Booker-style piano and the swelling B-3 stylings of Art Neville, Gruver has also become a well-regarded sideman for Leo Nocentelli of The Meters. Jeff Watkins is an accomplished sax player, engineer and producer. He spent twelve years leading the James Brown Band, including Brown’s induction into the Rock’n’Roll Hall of Fame. He also worked for six years with Joss Stone as her producer, engineer, and bandleader. The four albums New Orleans Suspects have released since 2011 include their eponymous debut studio album and a live recording, Caught Live at the Maple Leaf, which made it into the iTunes® highly competitive “New and Noteworthy” page. The band’s third recording Ouroboros, released in October 2014, is an all-original studio album that characterizes the band’s sound and puts a contemporary twist on the funk, rock, and R&B traditions of New Orleans music, placing them in a class of their own. The fourth and most recent album, Kaleidoscoped, released in September 2016 on both CD and vinyl, is being hailed as their best and most original to date, being added to over 100 radio stations in North America and receiving rave reviews. Both of these last two albums appear on New Orleans label “Louisiana Red Hot Records”.

97.3 KBCO, Live For Live Music & Mile High Spirits Present The New Mastersounds - Fox 25th Anniversary Show With special guests: New Orleans Suspects DOORS: 8:00pm SHOW: 9:00pm $20 ADV | $22 DOS ALL AGES The New Mastersounds 2016 was our busiest year to date. Starting in international waters with our fifth appearance on Jamcruise, we played a total of 114 shows in Germany, Japan, South Korea, Spain, Switzerland, UK, and in 32 of the 50 US states. Our tune "Whistle Song" was used by AVVO in a nationwide TV and online ad campaign. We released our eleventh studio record, The Nashville Session (which also happens to be our fourth live record) and started work on our twelfth. On the side, Pete co-wrote and produced a new original album with drum legend Bernard Purdie, and Eddie made a record with Quantic. In New Orleans we played late-night tribute sets to the late, great Allen Toussaint, featuring Ivan Neville, Jon Cleary and Marc Broussard. Eddie performed in Foundation of Funk with Ziggy Modeliste and George Porter Jr of The Meters as well as leading a tribute to Grant Green called Green Is Beautiful, featuring members of the Greyboy All Stars and Soulive. We recorded a single with Brooklyn-based power-funk collective Turkuaz, and then went on tour with them for eight weeks, which was simultaneously exhausting and enormous fun. 2017 promises to be a lot less intense but no less exciting, with more studio writing and recording in February, a Colorado ski tour, more late-night shenanigans in New Orleans, and possible trips to Japan and Hawaii and Spain currently being discussed. Comprised of some of the most seasoned, highly respected players in NOLA, the group called themselves The Unusual Suspects. Their chemistry was undeniable and by the summer of 2011 they decided to tour full-time, renaming the band New Orleans Suspects. They quickly began attracting large crowds from San Francisco to New York. In three short years they released two CDs and established themselves as one of New Orleans’ best supergroups. **BONERAMA** Bonerama has always been hailed as "unlike anything you've ever heard before”... It’s the best way to describe this 16 year old powerhouse touring band from New Orleans, LA. In addition to changing the way people think about the trombone, the sound of Bonerama has become an influence and contribution to the sound of New Orleans music today. With newer acts such as Trombone Shorty and Big Sam’s Funky Nation joining them on the national music scene, it’s New Orleans that has benefited with a newfound reputation as being a bonafide "Trombone Town". These bands all carry the trombone like the trophy it truly is in New Orleans. And Bonerama was there first. The band has performed and recorded with countless national artists such as R.E.M., OKGo, Tom Morello, Wayne Kramer (MC5), Jill Sobule and so many more, all while bringing their distinctive sounds from New Orleans to a national spotlight. Festivals and events such as Monterey Jazz Fest to High Sierra Music Festival, Jam Cruise, Bear Creek Festival and of course the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival only outline the extensive festival work this band has under its’ name. National television appearances on CBS (Late Show with David Letterman), HBO (Comic Relief, Treme) and CNN have further exposed Bonerama to a wide range of unsuspecting new viewers.

It is with great pleasure that we announce the 31st Annual Krewe of DADs Masquerade Ball on Saturday, October 29th. "Cover All Your Basses" To think that we have kept this party rollin’ on for over three decades is something to be proud of. It has taken all of us!!! The band members, the fans, the venues and the DADs Krewe, thank you all for sticking with it. When a good time becomes a Tradition, the level of specialness (new word) just keeps growing each year. This year’s DADs Ball will feature The New Orleans Suspects and Raw Oyster Cult each performing full sets. I would imagine plenty of cross-pollination along the way as well. We will also have a very Special Guest in town for the event. Our friend, Reggie Scanlan knows a good time when he sees one, and he did not want to miss this one. Reggie will sit in with each band throughout the evening, along with Charlie Wooton (Suspects) and Dave Pomerleau (ROC). Three bass players in the house, just think of the possibilities. Saturday, October 29th Bunkers located in the North Loop downtown Minneapolis Doors 7pm Music 8pm Tickets will be $30 adv/door Ticket On Sale date will be July 31st. They will be available via www.ticketfly.com, at Bunkers, through your local DADs Member, or by sending a check/money order to my address below. Putting a contemporary twist on the funk, rock, and R&B traditions of New Orleans music, this album is like taking a wild ride through they city’s musical history in a brand new vehicle. Ouroboros was released in October 2014 on Louisiana Red Hot Records and received rave reviews from the press and substantial airplay on syndicated blues radio. Charlie Wooton was born and raised in Lafayette, Louisiana, where he was exposed to all aspects of music, from the class room to the LaLas (The Dance) in the backwoods and in the streets of New Orleans. Studying Jazz and Classical during the day then playing Funk and Zydeco gigs at night, Charlie got a very diverse musical education. His first touring gig was with Zydeco icon Chubby Carrier, where Charlie claims he learned how to put on a show and take care of business. At 20 years of age Charlie moved to Los Angeles and worked at 3rd Encore Studios for 3 years, then made his way to Atlanta where he formed the band Zydefunk, which featured the likes of Oliver Wood, Willie Green, Alvin Ford Jr., Count M'Butu and Marcus James Henderson. Needing to get back to his roots, Charlie moved back to Louisiana and since has played with the best of New Orleans: Bonerama, Zigaboo, Johnny Vidacovich, Cyril Neville, Chief Monk Boudreaux, New Orleans Suspects, Big Sam's Funky Nation and many more. He toured with Royal Southern Brotherhood for 4 years and recorded 4 CDs, as a bassist and a writer. Recently Charlie has been touring with the New Orleans Suspects, so watch out for when they come to your home town!

Special guests Post Street Rhythm Peddlers open the show. Doors 8:00 PM, Show 8:30 PM $15 Advance, $20 Day of Show New Orleans Suspects began playing together in 2009 as a pick-up band at the Maple Leaf in New Orleans. In three short years they released three CDs and established themselves as one of New Orleans’ best supergroups. Reggie Scanlan’s career has been defined by his thirty-three years playing bass in The Radiators – the longest running rock act in the history of New Orleans – but his résumé is far deeper; Scanlan spent much of the 1970’s in the bands of legends James Booker, Professor Longhair, and Earl King. Jake Eckert was the lead guitarist in the Dirty Dozen Brass Band. While living in Los Angeles he played in the band New Soul Underground along with jazz great Larry Carlton. He has performed with some of the biggest names in the business, including Warren Haynes, Dr. John, Allen Toussaint, and Dave Matthews. The two albums New Orleans Suspects have released since 2011 include their eponymous debut studio album and a live recording, Caught Live at the Maple Leaf, which made it into the iTunes® highly competitive “New and Noteworthy” page. Their upcoming release, Ouroboros, is an all-original studio album that characterizes the band’s sound and places them in a class of their own. Putting a contemporary twist on the funk, rock, and R&B traditions of New Orleans music, this album is like taking a wild ride through they city’s musical history in a brand new vehicle. Ouroboros will be released on Louisiana Red Hot Records and distributed by E-1 in October of 2014 and will give the band their first shot at a national marketing campaign – including a radio push for their first single “Soothe Me,” written by Mr. Eckert. As always, the band will continue to keep the hot in support of the new release. www.neworleanssuspects.com/

New Orleans Suspects at #WinstonsOB with San Diego's Bomb Squad! Thursday, Sept. 17th Tix: $15 Ticket link: www.winstonsob.com/event/new-orleans-suspects-bomb-squad Start with members of three of the top bands to come out of New Orleans, The Neville Brothers, The Radiators, and The Dirty Dozen - then add a saxophonist who was James Brown's horn director for 12 years, and a keyboard player with extraordinary talent, and you have The New Orleans Suspects. Reggie Scanlan (The Radiators) Willie Green (Neville Brothers) Jake Eckert (Dirty Dozen) Jeff Watkins (James Brown Band) C.R. Gruver (Outformation) www.neworleanssuspects.com Bomb Squad: www.facebook.com/BombSquadSD
